Covid-19 Greyscale Comp

For this step in the assignment, I went ahead with a 5 by 5 dimension to make a perfect square! I started by getting my strongest thumbnail and building on that but adding the actual virus as a design element. I wanted to keep the drawing simple so it could still be effective and easily understood! I started by making a line layer which strictly just had line work on it of the main female than of the virus. After playing with the composition I created a new layer called shading and that is where I applied my grey tones.

For this part of the assignment, I started by getting different elements from each of my thumbnails and combining them together to create more diversity! I started by copying all the different woman I wanted to use in this picture and just arranging them in greyscale where and what size I want everyone to be! After I was happy with the layout I played with some typography that I liked and placed that accordingly as well. I then proceeded to add colour staying in the theme of blues and pop colour of yellow. Which are colours I associate police workers with. After adding the colours I know I needed to have something conceptual and fun and I thought adding a background of roads of different effectiveness and opacities would be a good way to give this design piece something interesting! Grim Reaper - Storyboard Comps

For this second part of the assignment, we were asked to create larger comprehensive sketches of our thumbnails. I started with some line art to get placement correct.  This sketch the grim reaper is playing his radio to get music playing in the background while he is about to enjoy his bubble bath. After I was happy with the linework I then decided to add in colour, furthermore with some subtle hilites and shadows. This is my second sketch of the grim reaper filling the bath up with water, I drew out everything first made sure I was happy with it. After I was content with the linework part I proceed to add colour and again hilites and shadows Moving onto my third comp sketch, I went with a close up shot of the bath being filled with bubbles. Portraits

This week we attempted to do our first portraits using our Wacom tablets, I used an older photo from my father of his mother, my nonna, Carmela. I had a lot of fun recreating this image and hope to only make my skills stronger and stronger moving forward! We started with picking a picture and creating just an outline of the image: After, we hid the image and added in background colour with some light tonal values: Continuing to add more and more tonal values At this point, I started to add more details such as a few major hilites as well as filling in the rest of the painting! Finally, I made my darks much darker and blended my hilites into the piece to give it a more realistic look and feel to the piece! Overall for my first attempt, I am happy with this portrait and only hope I can strengthen my skills as I continue my education and design career!
